Let our effort to discover our own essential nature, that indwelling Universal Power, be a characteristic feature of the new millennium we are about to enter. Let this be recognized as one of the important goals of the next century."

Amma`s address to the United Nations Interfaith Celebration, 1995

"This is the moment to awaken the love and compassion within us. This is the time to pray with our hearts and work with our hands. Let us lend a helping hand to those who are grieving and thus light lamps of kindness and compassion."

Amma`s New Year Message, 2005

“Love is our true essence. Love has no limitations of caste, religion, race or nationality. We are all beads strung together on the same thread of love.”

Amma

“As long as there is enough strength in these hands to reach out to those who come to her, to place her hand on a crying person’s shoulder, Amma will continue to give darshan. To lovingly caress people, to console and wipe their tears until the end of this mortal frame—this is Amma’s wish.”

Understanding and Collaboration Between Religions

“Whatever one’s religion, if one understands the spiritual principles, one can attain the Ultimate Goal, the realization of one’s true nature. If a bottle contains honey, the color of the bottle is irrelevant. On the contrary, if we fail to absorb the spiritual principles, religion will be reduced to mere blind faith, shackling us. ... The power of religion lies in spirituality. Spirituality is the cement that fortifies the edifice of society. Practicing religion and living life without assimilating spirituality is the same as constructing a tower by simply piling up bricks without ever using any cement. It will easily crumble.”

Interfaith Center of New York’s Fourth Annual James

Parks Morton Interfaith Award Ceremony, New York, 2006

The Real Change Must Happen Within

“We have stepped into the new millennium with great hopes and expectations of change. But though the numbers denoting the year are different, essentially nothing else has changed. The real change must happen within us. For only when conflict and negativity are removed from within can we play a truly constructive role in establishing peace. Simply transferring the world’s nuclear weapons to a museum will not in itself bring about world peace. The nuclear weapons of the mind must first be eliminated.”

Millennium World Peace Summit,

United Nations General Assembly, New York, 2000

Awakening Universal Motherhood

“The essence of motherhood is not restricted to women who have given birth; it is inherent in both men and women. It is an attitude of the mind. It is love, and

love is the very breath of life.”

Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious &

Spiritual Leaders at the United Nations, Geneva, 2002

Amma's New Year Message 2005

"With very heavy hearts, we are welcoming the New Year," Amma said. "We cannot rejoice at this moment, and this is not a time to rejoice. This is a time to invoke love and compassion in our hearts. The dead are not going to come back, but we can give love and consolation to those who are living.

"In this New Year, which is shrouded in the darkness of sorrow, we should light the lamp of love, service and compassion, and with faith move forward."

"Man can achieve anything; he can even become God, but one second is enough to lose everything." Amma went on to say that human effort has its limitations, and that God's grace is more important. "Children, understand the goal of life and proceed."

Amma's Birthday Message - Monday, 27 Sept 2004
Amma feels very sad when She sees the present state of the world. Everywhere we look we see pictures of bloodshed and people shedding tears. There is no compassion even towards children. How many innocent people are perishing in wars and terrorist attacks! It is said that in the olden days some sects practiced human sacrifices, but still they adhered to certain dos and dont’s.  In the wars fought in the olden times, one was not supposed to attack an unarmed person, and war would not continue after sunset. Today, we have crossed all boundaries. We live in a time where ego and selfishness seem to rule the world. Read full message >>

Amma's International Peace Day mesage given on Tuesday 21st September, 2004, at Amritapuri, India
"We should not turn the world into a desert. We should not allow love and compassion to totally dry up. If that happens, the human race will cease to exist. This beautiful world will become a forest full of human animals. Seeing today’s situation, sometimes Amma wonders, “Is the number of those desiring peace and harmony decreasing?”

Is humankind purposefully awakening its latent animalistic tendencies? Or is it simply helpless to prevent this descent? Whatever the cause may be, it would be a folly to rely on human effort alone—regardless of how great our efforts may be.

We should not hesitate to rely on God’s power. By “God’s power,” we do not mean something outside. It is within us. We need to awaken that power."

Amma's Birthday speech given on the morning of September 27th, 2003, International Stadium, Kochi during Amritavarsham50 celebrations...
"Amma has never considered that She has a birthday or that it should be celebrated. It is the sankalpa (resolve) of Amma’s children that has borne fruit in the form of these celebrations. It is an occasion for all of Amma’s children to come together to pray to the paramatman (supreme Self), thus lighting the lamp of love and peace, during a time when there is so much darkness of sorrow and strife. This occasion is a festival of love..."

Awaken your Motherhood: Excerpts of Amma's Keynote Address
"Amma feels that the forthcoming age should be dedicated to awakening universal motherhood. This is crucially important. The future of humanity lies in the hands of women. Women everywhere have to actualise the qualities of motherhood within themselves. This is the only way to realise our dream of peace and harmony in the world, and to further progress in life."
